This is an excellent example of macro photography in which a red-headed cardinal beetle is shown in a perfect location upon a pristine teasel head. The blue sky compliments these two elements ensuring that the composition is almost entirely in the primary colours of red, green and blue.

This simple but strong image in the junior category could easily have been shortlisted in the adult section. A good choice of viewpoint and the warm early morning lighting combine to show that “less can be more”.
